With the stream particularly high across the Thames it was most fortunate that Hampton Head was able to go ahead although regrettably the J14 events were cancelled due to the conditions.
Despite our J14 crews being unable to race Headington still had a strong entry at Hampton, with 40 athletes from the J15 to senior squads competing for the school. The high stream made for fast times and challenging conditions over the 3000m course from Sunbury to Hampton on the River Thames but the girls managed the conditions very well producing excellent performances across the program. Headington were very kindly hosted by Hampton and Lady Eleanor Holles at their boathouse for the race.
The senior squad was racing in both divisions of the day. Division 1 saw three J18 doubles, two J18 pairs and one J18 coxed four take to the water. A J18 coxless quad and eight took part in division 2.
In the double scull, which had an impressive 33 crews racing, Rosie and Katie were the fastest Headington duo coming second overall with Lucy and Danielle close behind in 4th; the pairing of Hannah and Anna placed 8th. In the J18 pair event Headington took 4th and 5th and were separated by less than two seconds. The coxed four of Alice, Lizzie, Grace, Holly and Annelise had a great race taking 5th place and were less than 6 seconds behind the winning crew.
In the 2nd division the J18 coxless quad of Danielle, Lucy, Rosie and Katie took 1st place with a strong performance in a tough field of 22 crews. In another tough event, the J18 eight also raced well for a 3rd place finish.
J16s and J15s
The J16 and J15 squads only raced division 2 at Hampton. The J16 coxless quad of Charlotte, Cordi, Alice and Grace performed very well, taking 2nd place out of 16 crews. The J16 8+ comprised of Beth, Alex, Mya, Tarien, Jaz, Emily, Leith, Rachel and cox Lizzie came 1st with an impressive row.
The J15 squad also saw two J15 coxed quads race in one of the deepest fields of the day with nearly 40 crews racing in the event. Both crews raced well taking 6th and 31st place.
