Dear Parents and Athletes,

Arrangements for Hampton Head 2017:

There will be 2 divisions at 10:00 and 14:00 raced over 3000m downstream from Sunbury Lock on the River Thames: Headington have entered crews into both divisions. Please note that all girls must use school transport to get to the event unless she has permission from the Head of Rowing to meet us at Hampton.

Headington are boating from the Hampton School Boathouse on the north bank of the River, there is no access for parents to the boathouse or the surrounding yard. If you are dropping your daughter off please do so at the gate.

The Draw:

There is currently no draw available on the event website.

The girls will be given their crews during the week preceeding the event but the following applies to the year group squads (unless girls are specifically told otherwise by their coach):

J14 - racing only division 1

J15 & J16 - racing only division 2

Seniors - racing both divisions

Transport:

The bus for Division 1 will depart at 6:45am at the latest. Please meet outside the school gym at 6:30am.

The bus for Division 2 will depart at 10am at the latest. Please meet at the Headley Way school entrance at 9:45am

Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping. YOU MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE outside the boarding houses.

Transport is available back from Hampton however, where possible, please can parents arrange transport back from the event. No girls may depart the event until the trailer is fully loaded.

Itinerary: Hampton Head: Saturday 4th February 2017

Division 1

06:45: Bus for those racing in division 1 departs from the school gym.
08:00: Bus arrives at Hampton - begin rigging boats
08:30: Boats rigged for Div 1

08:45: Dressed and ready for pre-race chat at the trailer. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else.

09:00: is the estimated earliest boating time for girls. Rowers note: you are responsible for ensuring that you have boated at the correct times. Crews that are late may not be allowed to race. I have instructed coaches that under no circumstances are they to chase you to get boated! 

09:45: In marshalling area (make sure you have warm kit as you may be there for a while).
10:00: Approximate start time: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start.

Once you have completed your race, you need to report any breakages or other equipment issues to your coach immediately.

If you are only racing division one you may depart only when your equipment is loaded onto the trailer and your coach says that you may leave.

Division 2

10:00: Bus for those racing division 2 only departs from the Headley Way school entrance
11:30: Bus arrives at Hampton - begin rigging boats
12:00: Boats rigged for Div 1

12:30: Dressed and ready for pre-race chat at the trailer. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else.

from 15:30: De-Rig and load trailer. No girl may depart before the trailer is fully loaded.

Kit and Food

Please ensure that you have:

- Water bottles with electrolyte replacement fluid.

- Food - appropriate for race day, if you are not sure what to bring please ask your coaches

- A good breakfast before you depart (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).
- Post Div 1: Make sure you have a meal for after your race, such as pasta and banana / fruit
- Post Div 2: Make sure you have a meal for after your race, such as pasta and banana / fruit

- Kit: It will be cold and possibly wet so you will need a change of kit for after each race. Make sure you have enough warm and waterproof kit for when you are sitting around even if it means you bring a blanket down. Coxes and athletes will not be allowed to boat if they are not properly attired for the weather conditions.

Spectating

Headington are boating from the Hampton School Boathouse on the north bank of the river, there is no parking or spactating in this area and access to the boathouse and yard is for coaches and athletes only.

Viewing is possible along the full length of the course; from the towpath running on the south (Molesey) bank from the start at Sunbury Lock to the finish at the western end of Platt's Eyot (opposite Hampton Church). Most supporters gather at the eastern end of Hurst Park, opposite Platt's Eyot to cheer on at the finish.

Teas are provided by Hampton School Boat Club in a refreshment tent in Hurst Park.

There are mobile toilets at Sadlers Ride and in the car park.
