Dear Parents and Athletes, 

Arrangements for the National Junior Sculling Head, Friday 24th March 2017:

The event is taking place at Dorney Lake over 3600m, the race times can be found on the event website.

The Draw:

The draw is not yet published but will be posted on the event webiste.

Crews will be given to the girls early this week.


There will be two transport groups, Groups 1: J15 to Seniors and Group 2: J14s

The bus for Group 1 will depart the Headley Way school entrance at 7:15am at the latest. Please meet outside the school gym at 7am. Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping. YOU MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE outside the boarding house.

The bus for Group 2 will depart at 11am at the latest. The girls will attend morning registraction and Periods 1 & 2 and then change into their rowing kit and meet their coaches at the school entrance at Headley Way.

Transport is available back from Dorney to school. No girls may depart the event until the trailers are fully loaded.

Please note that it is the girls responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below. Please note that once you boat, you may have a wait on the water before you race so make sure you don’t over hydrate, ensure you have had a loo stop prior to racing and have cold weather kit available.

There are two different transport groups

Group 1: J15 – Seniors (L5-U6)

0700: Meet outside Headley Way school entrance

0715: Bus departs Headington School

0830: Arrive at Dorney Lake

0845: Rig boats and register crews

0920: Earliest boating time for group 1 (WJ18 4x-)

1015-1145: J15 to Seniors (L5 to U6) race

1100-1230: de-rig and load trailer

13:00 to 1330: Group 1 depart for school  (arrive back by 1430)

Group 2: J14s (U4)

Normal school registraction and morning lessons. Girls are to change into rowing kit at the start of break

1100: Change into rowing kit and meet at Hedley Way

1110: Depart Hedley Way

1230: Arrive at Dorney

1245: Rig boats and register crews

1335: Earliest Boating time for group 2 (WJ14 8x+)

1415-1500: Group 2 race

1500-1600: De-rig and load trailer

1600: Depart Dorney

Kit and Food

Please ensure that you have:

- Water bottles with electrolyte replacement fluid.

- Food.

- Wellington Boots

- A good breakfast before you depart (eg: Poridge, toast and a banana).
- Post Race: Make sure you have a snack and pasta for after your race, a banana / fruit, a cereal bar and food for your coaches who clearly don't practice what they preach.

- Kit: You will need a change of kit for after your race. Make sure you have enough warm kit for when you are sitting around even if it means you bring a blanket down.It is may be cold on the day so please come prepared!
