Reading University Head was the 2nd chance for our senior girls to race down the Reading stretch of the Thames this season but whereas the Reading Head back in the autumn saw the girls racing in singles and doubles; this weekend the girls were racing in larger boat classes.
Heading ton were only racing in the morning division at Reading University Head, with three eights and one coxless quad all competing in senior events and racing against university and adult women’s crews.
The J16 VIII of Rachel, Leith, Alice, Cordi, Charlotte, Emily, Grace, Beth and coxed by Izzy was competing in the Novice Eights category, the girls raced well posting a competitive time and winning the Novice category by a nearly 30 seconds.
A coxless quad of Jodi, Alice, Sophie and Kira found a strong rhythm and raced well to take 2nd place in the IM3 category beating several university crews.
The HSOBC 2nd VIII took to the water in the in IM2 category taking 5th place in a competitive field. The 1st VIII was competing in the Women’s Senior category, the girls had a solid race posting the 2nd fastest women’s time of the morning just missing out to a crew from Oxford Brookes.
Reading University Head proved to be a good morning of racing for the girls and great preparation for the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race which is taking place next Saturday the 11th March.
