Dear Parents and Athletes,

Arrangements for Reading University Head:

There will be 2 divisions at 10:30 and 15:00 raced on the Reading stretch of the River Thames: Headington have entered both divisions. Please note that all girls must use school transport to get to the event unless she has permission from the Head of Rowing to meet us at the event. If your daughter is racing in Division 2 only and wishes to arrive later she must let the Head of Rowing and her coach know; there is no school transport available for the second division, she will need to make her own way to Reading and ensure that she is there by 12pm at the latest.

The Draw:

The draw will be found on the event website in due course.

The girls will be told their crews by their coaches during the week.

Transport:

The bus will depart at 7:30am at the latest. Please meet outside the school gate on Headley Way at 7:20am. Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping. YOU MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE outside the boarding house but rather wait outside the gate. Transport is available back from Reading however, where possible, please can parents arrange transport back from the event. No girls may depart the event until the trailer has been fully loaded.

Itinerary: Reading University Head: Saturday 6th February 2016

Please note that there are many girls racing and that it is their responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below:

Once the girls boat they may have to wait on the water before their race: please ensure that you have had a loo stop prior to racing and are prepared for cold weather.

07:30: Charlton bus departs from Headley Way.
08:30: Charlton bus arrives at Reading - begin rigging boats
09:00: Boats rigged for Div 1.

09:15: Dressed and ready for a pre-race chat at the trailer. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else. Please ensure you have read the competitor instructions (which will be available here soon).

09:30: is the predicted earliest boating time for girls (it may be earlier). Rowers note: you are responsible for ensuring that you have boated at the correct times. Crews that are late will not be allowed to race. I have instructed coaches that under no circumstances are they to chase you to get boated!

from 10:00: In marshalling area (make sure you have warm kit as you may be there for a while).

10:30: Approximate start time for division 1: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start once you have boated.

Once you have completed your race, you need to report any breakages or other equipment issues to your coach immediately.

All boats for Division 2 must be rigged by 13:00

Division 2: Those racing in Division 2 will need to meet at the trailer at 13:30. Dressed and ready for a pre-race chat. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else.

14:00: predicted earliest boating time. Rowers note: you are responsible for ensuring that you have boated at the correct times. Crews that are late will not be allowed to race. I have instructed coaches that under no circumstances are they to chase you to get boated!

15:00: Approximate start time for division 2: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start once you have boated.

from 4pm: De-Rig and load trailer. No girl may depart before the trailer is fully loaded.

Kit and Food

Please ensure that you have:

- Water bottles with electrolyte replacement fluid.

- Food.

- A good breakfast before you depart (eg: Poridge, toast and a banana).
- Post Div 1: Make sure you have pasta for after div 1, a banana / fruit, a cereal bar.
- Post Div 2: Have a good snack for after racing.

- Kit: You will need a change of kit for after each race. Make sure you have enough warm kit for when you are sitting around even if it means you bring a blanket down.

Spectating

Headington are boating from the Reading RC Boathouse next to Caversham bridge.

Viewing is possible along the full length of the course but I would ask that parents please do not cycle with their daughter's crews, the coaches will need to follow the races and there is limited space on the towpath for bikes
