The Rowing Club

Headington has established itself as one of the top rowing schools in the United Kingdom. Rowing was first introduced in 1991 and since then, the boat club has grown to include all years in the school. Membership in the boat club ranges from complete beginners to Junior World Championship Standard. Headington School Oxford Boat Club (HSOBC) is a competitive club with a recreational facility for the younger squads.

Rowing at Headington is delivered by ten rowing staff, three of which have either represented their country in rowing or coached to an international level. Head Coach; Ryan Demaine has himeself coached crews toĀ international gold medals and has led Headington to more thanĀ 75Ā National Medals over the last fourteenĀ years.Ā Ā

The 2016Ā ā€“ 2017 season saw theĀ Headington 1st VIII win the triple crown of Schools Head, National Schools' Regatta and Henely Women's Regatta for the fourth consecutive year with the gold inĀ the Girls Championship Eights at the National Schools' Regatta being the ninthĀ consecutive victory in this event.

J12s to J18s are encouraged to row and participate in what is one of the schoolā€™s most competitive clubs, both domestically and internationally. Over the last sevenĀ years, Headington has had an average of three girls per year representing Great Britain with gold medals at the World Junior Rowing Championships and the Youth Olympics in August 2010.Ā

The reason for this success lies in Headingtonā€™s training ethos whichĀ relies both on fun and the commitment of those who participate in the boat club. Most of all, enjoyment of the sport is encouraged by coaches as an essential element in success.Ā

If your daughter is new to the sport, and you would like toĀ enrollĀ your daughter into the boat club theĀ Novice Squad is available to U3 girls and our ā€˜Fast Trackā€™ learn to row program is run for girls from L4 to L5. Please donā€™t worry if your daughter is not that ā€˜sportyā€™, that athletic ability will develop as she takes part and begins to enjoy rowing.
