Headington were kindly hosted by the Oxford University Women and the Oxford University Lightweight Women for Wallingford Head. The previous day the Headington 1st and 2nd eights had the opportunity to train with the Oxford rowers on this fantastic stretch of the Thames.
Wallingford Head is the final race of autumn term and a chance for the girls to transfer the small boat skill that they have been working on since half term into eights and fours. The IM3 coxed four of Sophie, Alex, Holly and Jodi, coxed by Izzy were 7th in their category with the Headington 3rd eight of Kira, Cordi, Beth, Emily, Alice, Rachel, Grace, Georgie and cox Lizzie taking an excellent win in the Novice 8+ category.
The 2nd eight of Grace, Leith, Charlotte, Lizzie, Tilly, Louise, India, Franny and coxed by Maddie were racing in the J18 category; finishing 3rd while the 1st eight of Anna, Hannah, Rosie, Mattea, Lucy, Issy, Katie, Danielle and cox Annelise were racing in the senior category finishing as the third fastest women’s crew of the division.
For the first time this year the Headington crews were a mixture of the J15s, J16s and senior squads and it was great to see how the girls were able to gel in such a short amount of time and to perform as well as they did.
Finally, Wallingford was also the last race with Headington for our J15 and J16 coach Bethan Thomas. Bethan has been an integral part of the Headington set up for many years and we have been extremely lucky to have her working with us for such a long time. She will be greatly missed by everyone here at HSOBC and we would very much like to wish her all the best for the future!
