Oxford University have kindly allowed us to boat for Wallingford long distance sculls from their boat house. If you are dropping your daughter off directly at the race the address of the OUBC boathouse is:

There is no access for parents to the boathouse or the surrounding yard and no parent parking in the carpark. If you are dropping your daughter off please do so at the gate and do not enter the carpark. Please refer to the section below regarding spectator parking.

Dear Parents and Athletes,

Arrangements for Walligford Long Distance Sculls:

Wallingford long distance sculls is run upstream on the Wallingford stretch of the River Thames over three divisions of racing: Headington have entered crews into all three divisions. Please note that all girls must use school transport to get to the event unless she has permission from the Head of Rowing to meet us at Wallingford, if dropping your daughter off please ensure that she is there no later than; 8:30am for division 1 and 11:30am for divisions 2 and 3. 

Headington is boating from the riverside park on the Crowmarsh side of Wallingford bridge, this is parking for boat trailers only; please see the event website for information regarding spectator parking. If you are dropping your daughter off please do so at the gate and do not enter the park.

The Draw:

The draw can be found on the event website.

Headington crews will be finalised with the girls this week.

Please note that there will be no training on saturday for those who are not racing at Wallingford.

Transport:

The bus will depart at 7:50am at the latest. Please meet outside the school gym at 7:40am. Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping. YOU MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE while waiting outside the boarding house. Transport is available back from Wallingford however, where possible, please can parents arrange transport back from the event. No girls may depart the event until the trailer is fully loaded.

Itinerary: Wallingford LDS - 20th September 2017

Please note that there are many girls racing and that it is their responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below. Also, once you boat, you may have to wait on the water before you race so make sure that you have had a loo stop prior to racing and that you have warm rowing kit.

07:40: Meet outside Headley
07:50: Bus departs from Headington.
08:30: Bus arrives at Wallingford - begin rigging boats
09:00: Boats rigged for Div 1

 - Division 1

09:30: Dressed and ready for pre-race chat at the trailer. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else.

09:40: Earliest boating time for division 1 athletes. Rowers note: you are responsible for ensuring that you have boated at the correct times, ensure you have inspected the draw and make note of your boating time. Crews that are late may not be allowed to race. I have instructed coaches that under no circumstances are they to chase you to get boated! 

10:30: In marshalling area (make sure you have warm kit as you may be there for a while).
11:00: Approximate start time: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start.

Once you have completed your race, you need to report any breakages or other equipment issues to your coach immediately.

 - Divisions 2 and 3

12:30: Boats rigged for Div 2 and 3

13:00: Dressed and ready for pre-race chat at the trailer. You will then warm up and boat. There will be no time for anything else.

13:20: Earliest boating time for division 2 and 3 athletes. Rowers note: you are responsible for ensuring that you have boated at the correct times, ensure you have inspected the draw and make note of your boating time. Crews that are late may not be allowed to race. I have instructed coaches that under no circumstances are they to chase you to get boated! 

14:30: In marshalling area (make sure you have warm kit as you may be there for a while).
14:45: Approximate start time for Division 2: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start.
15:00: Approximate start time for Division 3: it could be earlier so ensure that you row straight up to the start.

Once you have completed your race, you need to report any breakages or other equipment issues to your coach immediately.

from 15:30: De-Rig and load trailer. No girl may depart before the trailer is fully loaded.

Kit and Food

Please ensure that you have:

- Water bottles with electrolyte replacement fluid.

- Food - appropriate for race day, if you are not sure what to bring please ask your coaches

- A good breakfast before you depart (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).
- Make sure you have a meal for after your race, such as pasta and banana / fruit

- Kit: It will be cold and possibly wet so you will need a change of kit for after each of your races. Make sure you have enough warm and waterproof kit for when you are sitting around even if it means you bring a blanket down. Coxes and athletes will not be allowed to boat if they are not properly attired for the weather conditions.
