Marlow Regatta is a multi lane event held annually at Dorney Lake. Normally this event would fall on the same weekend as Henley Women's Regatta but due it being delayed,
Marlow were able to offer Womens racing this year. Headington had strong representation with crews entered in J14 and J18 categories as well as many alumni also competing.
We had two senior crews entered this weekend, both racing on saturday. The morning saw the 1st 8+ race along the track where they competed first in the time trial which lead them to being on top going into the A-final later. They managed to win the A-final by a respectable margin of 12 seconds. The afternoon saw the J18 4x race the time trial, and then place 5th the C final in the evening and afternoons racing.
Sunday saw four Headington J14 crews race across the 1km course Marlow Regatta acted as an opportunity for many of these girls as their first competitive race within their time at Headington. The girls first raced in the morning in the J14 4x where they produced very strong races amongst both crews managing to qualify bothe for the A final. In the A final, the Headington J14s put in a promising performance and crossed the line 1st and 4th. The A quad made their performance even more notable by winning with a significant margin of 17 seconds between them and the next highest placing crew. Moving into the afternoon the quads combined to be in the J14 8x+ where they managed to provide a strong race and win the B final.
Alumni
In the Women's Eights, Trudie (2020) placed 5th overall representing ULBC, alongside other alumni Annelise (2018) and Alice (2019) who placed 13th and 14th respectively. The Women's four also saw two Headingtonians - Katie King-Smith (2017, now at Yale) and Cordi Mahoney (2020, now at Princeton) representing Leander placing 1st and 3rd. India (2017, currently at Edinburough) also raced for Marlow in the 4- and placed 5th overall. In the 4x, Twins: Leonie and Sacha (2020) placed 8th, racing for Surrey University.
Overall, Headington had a strong weekend racing at Marlow regatta which was a great display of all the hard work put in throughout lockdown throughout the club.
